Who received gold at the Global Good Awards?

The Global Good Awards returned for its fifth instalment this year, once again with the aim of recognising and rewarding the fantastic work organisations are doing to improve their sustainability and reduce their social impact.

For the third year running, Revive, a recycled and Carbon Balanced Paper by Denmaur Paper Media was the event’s headline sponsor.

How is the event different?

What makes the Global Good Awards stand out from the crowd is that while they talk the talk, praising the efforts of the organisations they are judging, they also walk the walk themselves. The ceremony host is often powered on 100% renewable energy, their marketing materials are printed on Revive100, a 100% recycled paper from Denmaur and even their delegate travel is Carbon Balanced. This year, the event became water neutral and they are always looking for ways to further improve their sustainability.

2019 winners

Organisations can enter into a range of categories such as “Global Good Company of the Year”, “Individual Leader of the Year” and “Best Campaign of the Year” to name a few. Some of the winners from 2019 are:

WSP (Global Good Company of the Year)

WSP, the Canadian professional services company took the gold award for “Global Good Company of the Year”. They design the infrastructure of the future, from city masterplans to Crossrail. With their Future Ready programme, they challenge all of their 48,000 staff to design with the future in mind, not just the requirements of todays world. This includes planning infrastructure that can cope with a changing climate such as more extreme and less reliable rainfall which leads to increased flooding. They’re also designing roads that are ready for the mass adoption of electric cars in the coming years which brings challenges such as how and where will they be charged?

Hubbub and Barclay Communications (Best Campaign of the Year)

Hubbub’s Community Fridge Network was awarded gold in the “Best Campaign of the Year” category in 2019’s Global Good Awards. The project uses community fridges to make fresh food available to everyone in the community for free. This helps people connect with their communities, reduces waste and most importantly, helps those in need.

Used Kitchen Exchange (Best Start-Up Enterprise)

The Used Kitchen Exchange claimed the gold Award as the “Best Start-up Enterprise” by promoting the sale and reuse of pre-owned kitchens. This has helped bring affordable, pre-owned kitchens to market for the ethically motivated and cost-conscious buyers with measurable social value. This year, they sold their 1500th kitchen which has prevented the equivalent of an additional 1800 tonnes making it to landfill and saved 9,000 tonnes of COemissions.
